KIDIDIOMS™: A Narrative Approach to Figurative Literacy

The Zero-Worksheet Oral Bridge from Primary Foundations to Secondary Remediation

Stop Teaching Idioms Backwards.

When you hand a struggling reader a multiple-choice worksheet with literal distractors, they don’t learn figurative language—they get trapped in cartoon imagery.

Kididioms flips the script: Students live the drama first, name the problem in their own words, and discover the idiom as the ultimate shortcut.

The Problem: The Systemic Literacy & Lexical Collapse

Classrooms today face a silent crisis:

Decoding Barriers: Struggling readers in middle and high school burn valuable cognitive energy decoding basic text, leaving zero mental bandwidth for subtext, inference, or figurative meaning.
Infantile Interventions: Handing older students remedial elementary worksheets insults their intelligence and guarantees instant disengagement.
The Vocabulary Void: High schoolers lack comprehension of foundational academic Tier 2 words—terms like arbitrary, volatile, and trepidation—locking them out of secondary literature and standardized assessments.

The Solution: The 4-Step Spoken Choreography

Each 3-to-4-minute module takes learning entirely off the page and turns it into rapid, active classroom theater:

The Live Cast (Tension): A student is cast into a real, high-stakes human dilemma—unfair rule changes, sudden loss of cool, or crushing over-commitment. No text. No reading barriers. Pure situational stakes.
Room Dialogue (Exploration): The teacher facilitates open inquiry. Students articulate the friction, identify the trap, and debate the stakes using their own everyday vocabulary.
The Mechanical Pivot (The Physical Bridge): A tangible, visual mechanism is introduced—slipping car tires in deep mud, an axe head flying off a loose handle, or goalposts being shifted back mid-kick.
Reveal & Anchor (The Master Shortcut): The idiom arrives at the very end as the punchline that neatly resolves the drama.

Dual-Track Orthographic & Lexical Extension

Every lesson is paired with a calibrated vocabulary lock designed to bridge foundational primary phonics with collegiate secondary morphology:

Level 1 (Foundational / Primary Bridge): High-frequency phonics and core descriptive words (Unfair, Overload, Explosive).
Level 2 (Advanced / Secondary Academic): Rigorous Tier 2 collegiate vocabulary broken down by syllables, Latin/Greek roots, and orthographic patterns (Arbitrary, Inordinate, Volatile).
